Olympic Weightlifting

What is Olympic Weightlifting?

Olympic weightlifting is a barbell sport that is popular across the globe and spans all ages, genders, and experience levels.

The sport consists of a competition between lifters in two contested lifts:

Snatch and Clean & Jerk.

Each lifter is allowed three attempts in each lift and their heaviest successful attempt counts towards their total. The lifter with the highest total wins their weight class.

Even if you have no interest in competing, there is great value in learning the olympic lifts and their variants. The olympic lifts are the single best tool in the gym for training focus, coordination, balance, body awareness, force production, force absorption, mobility, discipline, toughness, and overall athletic development.

Olympic weightlifting is a sport where your improvement is directly correlated with the effort you put in. This makes for a great opportunity for young athletes especially to develop the intangibles of hard work and consistency.
